Indian Railways to start work at select stations to deliver affordable housing: Report

New Delhi: A recent report confirms that Indian Railways is coming up with its new initiative of providing Affordable Housing to make millions of dreams come true.

Indian Railway Station Development Corporation(IRSDC) is now planning to work on a project that after completion will offer affordable housing to the residents of India. IRSDC is an organisation responsible for the redevelopment of the railway stations.

One of the leading newspapers has reported that IRSDC has purchased around 20 to 30 per cent of the land and it will carry out redevelopment work on the property. The scheme says that each house ranging from 40 to 60 square meters will be constructed under the Affordable Housing project. Each affordable house will either be a 1-BHK unit or a studio apartment. Buyers will be able to purchase the houses between Rs 40 to Rs 50 lakh, the newspaper read.

The officials associated with the project interacted with the reporters and briefed that the affordable housing project will be designed in a way to provide benefits to people coming from remote areas to work in cities. These Affordable Homes of Railways will also have tremendous advantages in terms of transportation, one of the officials said.

Besides this, the Railways will also develop stations that are well equipped with modern, passenger facilities, under the station redevelopment project. These redevelopment projects will provide multi-transport facilities and commuters will be able to use rail, bus, metro and taxi facility from a single origin.

The Railway officials during the interaction with the media also shared that in order to start the project in some select stations, a framework has been prepared by the Indian Railway Station Development Corporation. The dream of Affordable Homes is expected to be fulfilled along with station redevelopment and commercial space development at Delhi’s Bijavasan station, the officials added.
